2024 Outings
We have simplified our outings, going back to the days where friends who want to boat together just do!
Any member is welcome to grab folks to go out with, or plan a more organized outing. Contact [email protected] for tips and help organizing. Or just throw out dates and times in the facebook group.
We already have a few people who have volunteered to gather people together. See our facebook group for details and dates.

Riding on the Delta @ Orwood
Throughout the summer we have chill riding outings in the CA Delta usually around Discovery Bay, Bethel Island, and Whiskey Slough. These outings focus on riding, and are typically day trips only - Saturday, Sunday, or both.
How it works: Someone will reach out to the facebook group if they want to ride (so asking for a boat) or if they are taking their boat out (so need riders). People can also reach out directly to members. We usually will put 5-7 people on a boat (including the boat owners), and the agreement is that riders (minus up to 2 boat owners) will cover the cost of launch, gas and ice, as determined by the boat owner, and paid directly to them (cash, venmo, etc). A typical day runs $60-$100 depending on how much riding is done and how many people are on the boat. NOTE: because of limited boat space, it's important not to cancel at the last minute! Please let the boat owner know asap if you absolutely can't attend.
We generally ride all day, though it's up to the boat owners and crew. If it works and there are multiple boats out, we might tie up for lunch. Depending on wind and how everyone feels, we also might tie up, swim, and hang in the afternoon as well.

About Our Lake "Party" Outings
Our lake events are more of a "party & ride" vibe and last a full weekend. We're on the boats riding, hanging, and swimming all day Saturday and Sunday, and we party Saturday night. If we get a good group going and the organizer wants to add flair, the outing could have a theme, and the party includes dinner, music, games, and costumes. Drive up Friday night to be ready to go in the morning, or arrange with boat owners who go up early on Friday to ride an extra day. Outings generally end ~4pm Sunday. The outing coordinator will determine how costs are paid, but the expectation is that boat gas/ice, Sat dinner & drinks, and party supplies will be covered. You can expect to pay $150-250 for the weekend, plus camping which you would pay on your own. It's important to not bail last minute on these events as the numbers have to match up for boats and riders - be sure to work with the event organizer if you cannot fully attend both days.
What to Expect & What to Bring
Rider Basics
When you come to an outing, you'll already be assigned to a boat each day, so no need to worry about asking people if you can ride with them once you arrive. Work with the organizer or boat owner if you need to borrow equipment. Typically you will be on the boat all day, so take a look at the details for what to bring. We get started early on the lakes (~8am) and a bit later on the delta (~9am), so meet your boat owner and be ready to load up 15 minutes before. While on the boat, listen to your boat owner, and help out! Pull in ropes, get out fenders, offer to assist. You can eat and drink on the boats, and coolers are on the boats, but of course don't make a mess, and don't be a mess. For overnight outings, most riders take down their tents Sunday morning, so plan for extra morning time. Boat Owner Basics
For overnight events, work with the organizer to establish who will be on what boats. A lot of how the day will go will be your choice as the boat owner, so just communicate with your crew. Typically people do come to get riding in, so we suggest you go through a rotation and get out early enough to have good water before chilling when the water is blown out. Generally we expect the boats to be out all day, stopping for lunch at the local marina or tying up, but for adhoc day events you can work that out with your crew. Be sure to educate your crew on how they can best help you and any special instructions for your boat - some riders are brand new! For single adhoc days, tell your crew what you owe them to cover gas, launch, and ice. This isn't about making a profit, but you don't have to include yourself in the division ;). For overnight events work out with the organizer how costs will be handled. Get the phone numbers of your fellow boat owners and the outing coordinator so you can communicate about water quality, tie-up spots, or if you break down. |
Duties
Our outings are 100% put on by YOU, the club. Whether you are a member, or just checking us out, we need your help to ensure the outing goes smoothy. For overnight outings, all attendees must sign up for 1 or 2 "duties" during the weekend. And of course, help out whereever you see a need. Below are templates for duty rosters, but the organizer will tell you how they want to divvy up responsibilities.
